"What do you shoot with?"
The number one question we are asked is, “What gear do you use?”
It seems like every-time we are out shooting, people stop and take a glimpse with puzzled faces. Maybe they’re interested in what we’re doing or maybe they just want to know why we are using these crazy looking soft boxes, enormously huge lenses or home-made diffusers.
We’ve created a basic gear kit of the items we use on a day to day basis. I’ll begin to go more in depth with these individual items, and I’ll be creating more specific kits for lighting, diffusion, color-correction, and so on. I will soon break down what specific gear we use for a particular line of work such as, architecture photography, food photography, and product shots.
For now, you can view our gear kit right here: https://kit.co/pryme/favorite-gear
Favorite Gear
This kit includes most of the gear we use on a regular basis.
Nikon D810 FX-format Digital SLR Camera Body
Our main babe! She's a beauty. Heavier than most bodies out there but oh so crisp!
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
Our favorite lens for Landscape shots or artistic wide-view photos.
Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Zoom Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras
When in doubt, this is my go-to lens for a wide view or a more close-u feel.
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens
Our favorite lens for background compression. We use this for headshots, food, and some others.
Nikon PC-E FX NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED Fixed Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras
Our newest addition. We purchased this for primarily architecture shoots but I find we may be using it for other fun projects.
CamRanger CamRanger: Wireless DSLR Camera Control
We use this when we don't want to schlep around a laptop and long 15' tether cord. I love this but it can sometimes lag so we interchange with the cord.
Tether Tools TetherPro USB 2.0 to Mini-B 5-Pin Cable, 15' (4.6m), High-Visibility Orange
Our go-to tethering cable for most shoots. We connect to the laptop and that's it!
Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod for Sony, Nikon, Canon DSLR Cameras
Our primary tripod. Sturdy, strong, but heavier than most. Not great for travel but we do it anyways. We use this with the GH-100 Grip Head
Vanguard Alta Pro 263AGH Aluminum Tripod with GH-100 Grip Head for Sony, Nikon, Canon DSLR Cameras
Our primary tripod. Heavy but sturdy and not the best for travel... but we do it anyways. You can't find something this good for the price range. It has lasted me a long time!
Lee Filters SW150 Mark II Filter System Rotating Holder for Wide Angle Lenses
Lee Filer holder for our 14-24mm Lens. The adapter ring is purchased separately.
Lee Filters SW150 Adapter for Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens
This is used with the SW150 rotating filter.
Lee Filters 150x150mm Big Stopper Neutral Density 3.0 Filter for SW150-Series Filter Holder, 10 Stop
10 stop ND filter for the 14-24mm which can be interchangeable with all other lenses so long as you purchase the ring adapter for the lens (SW150 system)
